Ignoring the Evidence

Many journalists have been complicit in the misrepresentations of the merits of embryonic stem cells versus adult stem cells for the treatment of  disease and disability.  Very often a success is reported - in curing blood diseases or healing of bone fractures for example - as being achieved with "stem cells".  Naive readers are then regaled with a diatribe from cloning  lobbyists  and embryo experimenters about "religious fundamentalists" who because of their opposition to "scientific progress"  are condemning the paralysed to a life in wheelchairs, or preventing cures for Alzheimers, motor neurone disease and other ills.  Not mentioned is that all the treatments and cures are from adult stem cells, not cloned embryos.

Democrat’s  Attack on Pregnancy Support Blunted

A majority of the Committee (Senators Humphries, Barnett and Polley) feels that the evidence presented to the Inquiry casts doubt over the efficacy and effect of the Transparent Advertising and Notification of Pregnancy Counselling Services Bill 2005.

Survey Shows Women Want Information on Abortion Rrisks.

A new survey has found that women want to be thoroughly informed of all possible risks associated with elective medical procedures, and they generally want as much or more information when it comes to abortion.  The survey of 187 women seeking obstetric and gynecological services at a Wisconsin women's health clinic was published in the Journal of Medical Ethics in July.

Abortion Stops a Bleeding Heart

The Democrats are trying to “reframe” their message to make people think they believe abortion is wrong. I think this is going to be a hard sell if they plan to continue ferociously defending abortion-on-demand right up until the moment the baby’s head is through the birth canal.

Abortion Clinics Consent Forms

The ubiquitous Senator Stott Despoja is constantly accusing pregnancy support services of giving misleading information to callers and "frightening" them about the physical and other risks of induced abortion.  Below are  Consent Forms  from an abortion clinic in Texas, and  the Consent Form from Planned Parenthood of Australia.

The Political Science of Cloning

A patient of mine with advanced Parkinson’s disease hopes to be the first man treated with stem cells from the back of his nose. He is among the dozens of patients with various genetic illnesses whose stem cells have been collected for research at the Griffith University Adult Stem Cell Centre.

Letter from Karen Malec

Apparently, my last letter to you made the abortion enthusiasts at the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) very unhappy.  I wrote that the NBCC is one of several breast cancer fundraising businesses that has one or more leaders who formerly worked either in the abortion industry or for an abortion advocacy group.

New German Study: Pregnancies Lower the Risk of Breast Cancer

A new study by international researchers concluded that a woman’s risk of contracting breast cancer is lowered and the decrease is more substantial the more pregnancies she has. As a result, women who have abortions could be missing an opportunity to lower their risk of developing the disease. Women with mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes have an increased breast cancer risk.

Childcare is Not Only Wrong But it’s Costing Taxpayers Heaps

The Australian Government will spend around ten billion (not millions) in 2006-07 to provide financial assistance to help working parents meet child minding costs, mainly through the Child Care Benefit (CCB) and the Child Care Tax Rebate (CCTR).

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police get their man

On their website, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police prove they're still out to rescue damsels in distress. What villainy, you ask, threatens today's north-of-the-border maiden? Gender stereotyping!

Wonder Woman: The myth of having it all

The following review was published in News Weekly magazine so it is not reproduced here but rather linked to our site.

“When ABC TV journalist Virginia Haussegger wrote a poignant article in which she mourned her inability to have children ("The sins of our feminist mothers", Melbourne Age, July 23, 2002) and blamed feminists for not warning women of the ticking of the biological clock, I assumed her mother was a feminist who had encouraged Virginia to put career ahead of having babies. Virginia's recent book, Wonder Woman: the myth of 'having it all' dispels that assumption”.
