The Event is entitled "Reproductive Health of Asian Women". Speakers include: Dr. Angela Lanfranchi, breast surgeon and President of the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute, Dr.Joel Brind, Professor of Human Biology & Endocrinology, and Mrs. Denise Mountenay, President & Founder of Canada Silent No More. Letter on child care published in The Australian, 20/2/17 under the title "At War with the Senate" I was surprised by the following quote from Paul Kelly's article ("Senate's threat to nation's rating, Turnbull's stance", 18/ 2): "It will be an act of unforgivable parliamentary irresponsibility if a solution cannot be found to authorise the $1.3bn childcare package. This is the immediate priority". Do we accept that childcare is a legitimate commonwealth responsibility, let alone an immediate priority? Many economists don't. In fact, they would argue it is an individual's responsibility. And I can think of many more immediate priorities such as improving our defences, solving road gridlock or basic literacy in primary schools. Action
Australia is committing $9.5 million of taxpayers' money to send abortion to our poorer neighbours - right when US President Donald Trump defunded abortion provider International Planned Parenthood. By reinstating the 'Mexico City Policy', he reinstated a pre-Obama ban on US Government funding of foreign abortion groups. Shamefully, Australia has just committed $9.5 million of taxpayer's money to fund SPRINT (the Sex Health Reproductive Program in Crisis and Post Crisis Settings) in the Indo-Pacific region. The program will be delivered in a continued Australian Government "partnership" with International Planned Parenthood. Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has even praised Australia's "total contribution to the program [of] $26.3 million since 2007", naming Fiji, Nepal and Vanuatu as examples of "crisis-affected places" which have benefitted from "sexual and reproductive health services". Please write, not email, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, Parliament House, Canberra ACT 2600 requesting that Australian overseas funding for organisations that perform or advocate for abortions be cancelled immediately. Prime Minister Turnbull is constantly talking about our huge budget deficit which has blown out by billions of dollars since he became PM. What possible justification is there for Australia funding the killing of babies overseas? ____________________________________________________________
