Feminism becomes like the mythical Ouroboros,
a snake swallowing its own tail

by Babette Francis

If there were such a thing as a feminist pantheon, Australian feminist and writer Germaine Greer would surely be enshrined there. Along with Betty Friedan's "The Feminine Mystique" (1963), Germaine's 1970 book, "The Female Eunuch" is regarded as one of the foundational documents in modern feminism.

Yet that wasn't enough to prevent her being black-listed at Cardiff University in mid-November. A petition signed by 3,000 people called for the cancellation of her talk on "Women & Power: Lessons From the 20th Century." The signers of the petition claim she is "transphobic." In 2009 she wrote in the Guardian: "Nowadays we are all likely to meet people who think they are women, have women's names, and feminine clothes and lots of eyeshadow, who seem to us to be some kind of ghastly parody, though it isn't polite to say so. We pretend that all the people passing for female really are. Other delusions may be challenged, but not a man's delusion that he is female."

This was six years before the July 2015 cover of Vanity Fair featuring Bruce Jenner, and the award by Glamour magazine to Bruce (Caitlyn) Jenner as "Woman of the Year". In a delicious bit of irony, Germaine Greer has been labelled a misogynist. However, Germaine's experience is reflective about the introspection going on within feminism and homosexual activists, you know like Ouroboros. For years they have been belabouring heterosexuals with the enlightenment represented by the LGBTs, i.e. lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders. The LGBs now want to expel the Transgenders from the sorority. Of course this would be regarded as blatant discrimination, transphobia and probably a hate crime if heterosexuals did it, but the media ignores it if done by the LGBs.

An online petition, "Drop the T," calls on Big Gay groups like HRC, GLAAD, and Lambda Legal to separate themselves from the transgender community: "The infringement of the rights of individuals, particularly women, to perform normal everyday activities in traditional safe spaces based on sex; this is most pernicious in the case of men claiming to be transgender demanding access to bathrooms, locker rooms, women's shelters and spaces reserved for women.

"Bryan Fischer of American Family Radio reports: "..... These gays are more incensed than we are over sexually confused men who invade the privacy of spaces set aside for the fairer sex...... In a scathing editorial, out, loud and proud homosexual Milo Yiannopolous makes it clear that the further away transgenders get from him, the better he likes it. Here is his opening paragraph: 'Someone has to say this, and it may as well be me. It's time to eject transgender people - specifically, the screeching, bullying, authoritarian trans rights lobby - out of the gay club, at least until they learn how to behave properly to the rest of us....... trans activists seem obsessed with policing and controlling others. They are humourless, divisive, hateful, god-awful bores who have inherited the very worst from their intersectional third-wave feminist antecedents and who seem more interested in laying down the law about pronouns than anyone's health or welfare. Frankly, I've had enough of them.'

Fischer continues: "It is no mystery to me that things have come to this pass. After all, the premise of the entire gay rights movement is that homosexuality is innate and unchangeable. People are born this way, and sexual orientation is therefore immutable and can't be altered. Then here comes the transgender crowd, with the exact opposite message. Their platform is that sexual orientation is so fluid it can switch polarity completely. I used to be a guy, but now I'm a girl. It was only a matter of time before this fundamental incompatibility between the two groups reached critical mass and erupted into open schism".

I hope President Obama is watching this cat fight - his Administration seems obsessed with enabling transgender teenagers to use facilities of the opposite sex. The Administration explicitly threatened to pull federal funding from an Illinois school unless it allowed a transgender boy to use the girls' bathrooms, and backed a transgender girl's appeal to use boys' facilities in Virginia.

There is something unseemly about the Administration of the President of the United States focussing on girls' locker room facilities when there are so many other urgent issues which need President Obama's full attention, you know, like Islamic State and terrorism....
