"A wake up call for Australia"
Anglican Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali, born in Pakistan, knows what it is
like to live under Sharia law. His Muslim father became a Christian,
but today would face death for apostasy. Michael professed
faith in Jesus Christ at 15. He later became a minister, then a bishop
working among the very poor but assaults and eventually death
threats forced him to flee to the UK, where his deep faith and abilities
were soon recognised. For some years he led the Church Missionary Society
in Britain, and later played a key role in the House of Lords. He has
stepped down as Head of the Rochester Diocese in Kent in order
to minister to the wider church including persecuted minorities
in Africa, Asia and
the Middle East.
Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali has won great respect from the secular media.
Unlike many church leaders, he is not afraid to tell it like it
is on issues of the day including the rise of aggressive
atheism and radical Islam.
Discriminatory Paid Parental Leave
Mrs. Tempe Harvey, President of Kids First Association of Australia
writes in News Weekly 10/7/10)
that feminists have successfully foisted the Paid Parent Leave Act 2010
on an unsuspecting Australian public. Unchecked, this scheme will discriminate
heavily against families with mothers not in the paid workforce. In
an historic setback for women's equality, Labor and the Coalition joined
forces to entrench discrimination against full-time homemakers with
the passage of minimum-wage paid parental leave legislation in June.
The new law is really a Bonding Time Reduction Scheme, because of the
scheme's discriminatory "work test". To be eligible for benefits
for later pregnancies, a mother must give up exclusive care of her baby
at 18-weeks and remain in paid work until six months pregnant again.
Budget estimates show that around 56% of mothers will not qualify for
the"work test" in 2011 and be an average $3,l00 worse off
with the Baby Bonus.
This will be especially so for mothers caring for older siblings at
home between pregnancies.
We commend Senator Steve Fielding of Family First, for moving an amendment
to remove the work
test on paid parental leave, and for highlighting the anomaly that mothers
who abort babies after 20
weeks gestation may qualify for the Baby Bonus.

Prayer
John l:4: "In Him was life and the life was the light of men".
Jesus came to give His life for us. If we accept Him as our Saviour,
we have life everlasting. Jesus is the bread of life. We thank you Father
for
Jesus and the life we have in Him, Amen.
