Psalm 127-3: "Children are a heritage of the Lord, and the fruit of the womb is His reward". Matthew 19.14: "Jesus said 'Let the little children come unto Me for such is the Kingdom of Heaven". Father God, We pray society will be convicted of the sin of abortion and become aware of the consequence of this sin to the individual and society. We ask in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
In our October 2007 Newsletter, Charles Francis wrote that Cloning was an obsolete process following the discovery by Japanese scientist Shinya Yamanaka that mouse skin cells could be turned into "pluripotent" cells which function like embryonic stem cells in that they can be turned into any kind of cell. Leon R. Kass, former head of President Bush's Council on Bioethics comments: "Reprogramming of human somatic cells to pluripotency is an enormously significant achievement, one that boosters of medical progress and defenders of human dignity can celebrate without qualification. The evidence in the papers in Nature and Cell is complete and compelling: Cells as versatile and useful as embryonic stem cells, obtained without embryo creation and destruction or the need to exploit women for eggs. Best of all, these cells can be produced from anyone — permitting the study of cells with different diseases and genetic makeup and, when stem-cell-based therapies eventually become available, providing rejection-proof tissues for personalized transplantation..... The alleged need for so-called therapeutic cloning is now passé. We can now enact a legislative ban on cloning and other degrading forms of baby-making, as recommended unanimously by the President’s Council on Bioethics”. Dr. Ian Wilmut, who cloned sheep Dolly has announced he will abandon attempts at human cloning and concentrate on this new technique of stem cell research - Babette Francis
