Genesis 4 - 10:  "Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground".  The ground cries out now to the Lord with the blood of aborted (killed) babies. Ezekiel 36-37: This is what the Sovereign Lord says: "Once again I will yield to the plea of the house of Israel, and do this for them". We pray Father that Your people who are called by Your Name will come to You in intercessory prayer for the Government to cease the funding of abortion.  We ask for Your Will to be done. Amen.

DOHA INTERNATIONAL FAMILY CONFERENCE

During 2004, in  celebration of  the 10th anniversary of the first International Year of the Family, Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Misned, Consort of the Emir of the State of Qatar and President of the  Qatari Supreme Council for Family Affairs, with the co-ordination of Professor Richard Wilkins, International Professor of Law, organised a series of conferences  (Geneva, Malaysia and Doha)  to examine the statement in Article 16, No. 3, of the Universal  Declaration of Human Rights that "The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of  society and is entitled to protection by society and the state," and to  reviewing worldwide  policies on the family.  About 1,500 delegates attended the concluding conference in Doha which adopted the "Doha Declaration on the Family".   Among the keynote speakers was   Cardinal Lopez Trujillo, President of the Pontifical Council for the Family,  who spoke on "The Complementarity of Men and Women: Building on the Strengths of Mothers and Fathers".  He said that "one truth that is present in a profound way in all cultures and religions is that of the  family based on marriage, the only worthy and appropriate place for conjugal love."

I was delighted to note that the Islamic State of Qatar has donated land for a Catholic church, and to find in Doha  flourishing communities of Goans and Mangaloreans from my home town in  India.  They were busy celebrating the feast of St. Francis Xavier during my stay in Doha  - an  intriguing  development in the Middle East!

In Decembr 2004 the General Assembly of the  UN  adopted  a  Resolution 'Celebrating the  10th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family and  recognized  the pro-family Doha Declaration. The European Union  (predictably) opposed it.
