YEAR OF THE FAMILY

It is ironic that in 2004, the 10th anniversary of the United Nations International Year of the Family, the institution of marriage on which family life is based is being contorted by homosexual lobbyists and judicial activists to a point at which the institution itself becomes meaningless.

The Supreme Court of Massachusetts has declared civil unions are not enough – the State must allow homosexual marriage. In doing so, the court has lurched to the farthest extreme any set of justices has ever dared to go. A good question to ask is: Why?  People have been able to arrange "civil unions" and "business partnerships" for years to be able to determine property issues, custody rights, financial arrangements etc.

One can add the name of a relative or friend to a  dying person's bank records, or arrange "power of attorney" or "guardian" status for people who are in need of additional legal or emotional support.  Anyone can arrange what they want in terms of a civil agreement as to how one's property, finances, even hospital visitation or inheritance is to be allocated.

So why does the court in Massachusetts insist on "marriage" for homosexual couples?  Especially when many homosexuals say that the element of fidelity to one's spouse, an essential aspect of marriage, is not for them - they want "open" arrangements in which each partner is free to engage in sexual relationships with others?

Though homosexual activists will never admit it, the true objective of the demand for "marriage” is to gain social approval for immoral sexual behavior. There is the internal voice of conscience that irks those who participate in homosexual activities. Activists will claim the reason for the guilt is because of prejudice shown in the legal system and social circles by people who disagree with the morality of homosexual behavior. That is why homosexuals want the legal "sanctification" of marriage.

Though probably few practising homosexuals attend church regularly, they still want to prevent their priest or pastor from quoting from the Bible that homosexual behaviour is wrong. And of course it will be difficult for priests and pastors to do this if homosexuals are demanding "marriage" ceremonials in the churches - which will surely be the next step once homosexual "marriage" is recognized by the State

The Family Council of Victoria, with which Endeavour Forum is affiliated, has organised an important Conference on  May 15, on important issues concerning family and marriage. Please make every effort to attend.
