Charles Francis.... May his noble soul rest in peace!

At 12 midday yesterday Friday August 14 the Australian pro life movement lost a great advocate  and friend when Charles Francis QC died in Melbourne's Cabrini Hospital after a long illness, cheerfully and stoically born. And his wife Babette, four sons, four daughters and numerous grandchildren lost a much loved husband, father and grandfather. Charles was a great supporter of his fellow pro lifers, keenly interested and encouraging of all they did for unborn children, unselfish in the legal assistance, speeches and advice he gave over many years. His wife Babette, the other half of a unique married couple, once echoed the thoughts of us all....that in our struggle against human cloning we could be tempted to make an exception in the case of Charles! Everyone loved him..a warm, courteous, principled man who served his country in the Royal Australian Airforce, the State, in Victoria's Parliament and the international as well as the Australian pro life movement . In retirement he became a prolific writer, providing us with a wide range of legal opinions as well as philosophical and social arguments to advance in the struggle against abortion and euthanasia. Two lasting images of Charles were of him, weakened by illness, but cheerfully attending campaign meetings against the legalisation of abortion last year and of him writing opinion pieces while hooked up in hospital to intravenous feeding.
To Babette and family we offer our sincere sympathy in the loss of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. We thank them for sharing him so generously with us. We  assure them of our prayers for the repose of his soul and for comfort in their time of sorrow.
The best tribute we could pay Charles is to keep up  our robust defence of human life. It is time for others to take up his mantle so I take the opportunity of reminding Victorian prolifers, budding lawyers especially, of the address to be given this coming Tuesday evening by UK barrister James Bogle, a protegee and long time admirer of Charles.
The Address, sponsored by Pro Life Victoria and Freedom Publishing is to be on The Diane Purdy Assisted Suicide Case and its International Consequences.
Date: Tuesday August 18
Time: 7. 30 p.m.
Location: Thomas More Centre
                  35 Whitehorse Rd.
                   Balwyn (Second Floor)
Refreshments will be served after the talk.
